EASA LAPL aeromedical examination

The EASA LAPL medical examination is required for pilots who want to fly VFR in light aircraft (MLA) with a maximum weight of 2,000 kg and no more than three passengers. Glider pilots (LAPL-S/SFCL-SPL) and non-commercial balloon pilots (BPL) must also hold a valid medical certificate.

How does the LAPL medical work?

Should the doctor have additional work after your examination, the extra costs are €125 per hour (excl. VAT). You do not need to fast for the examination.

  1. Identification and registration

    On arrival we check your proof of identity (ID card or passport). If you already have a medical certificate and licence, we scan these.

  2. Medical history

    You complete a digital health declaration with relevant medical information.

  3. Physical examination

    An approved Aeromedical Examiner (AME) carries out a comprehensive medical examination. The examination takes ± 1 hour on average.

  4. Assessment and certification

    • If the results are normal, your medical certificate is issued straight away.
    • If there are medical findings, further consultation with the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) may be needed before the certificate is issued.

Validity of the medical certificate

  • Under 40: 60 months
  • From age 40: 24 months

Revalidating your medical certificate

You can revalidate your certificate up to 45 days before the expiry date without changing the expiry date.
